There is some evidence to suggest the company began in 1862 and began to
flourish around 1910-20, being incorporated as a private limited company on 6th
December 1913.
[Kelly's Directory of Leicester & Rutland 1895 reveals, on page 470, Cycle
Makers; Lomas, Herbert C; see Wait & Lomas. (Wait & Lomas; 291/2
& 56 Gladstone St, Leicester. This is only included as the occupation is related
to the above occupations. Quite often manufacturers of cycles expanded their
businesses into the motor trade at the turn of the 19th & 20th centuries). This
link, however, is extremely tenuous in this instance.]
